Were it not for the combination of a drought at Brule Creek South Dakota and a sharp-eyed local fisherman, the mystery surrounding the 1971 disappearance of two high school students may well have remained unsolved.

On the night of May 19, 1971, high school juniors Cheryl Miller and Pamela Jackson disappeared having last been seen on their way to attend a local party.

Earlier that day, the two girls had met up with some boys and had discussed attending the party. Not being exactly sure where the party was, they arranged to follow the boys there, with Cheryl and Pamela driving Cheryl’s grandmother’s 1960 Studebaker.
